5 Reasons to Get Married Midweek in 2022

Updated February, 2022

Why would anyone get married midweek? Aren't weddings only on Saturdays? Keep reading for why you should consider a midweek wedding in Prince Edward County in 2022.

If you’re planning a wedding or re-planning a wedding for 2022 we salute you. With the constant changes to local regulations and the unending questions about where this global pandemic is trending it is hard to imagine how your wedding day will unfold.

We are happy to report that a few things have changed for the positive in the wedding industry because of Covid. One of our personal favourite things has been a push for midweek weddings. Due to the sheer volume of weddings being postponed from 2020 to 2021 and then to 2022, along with many wedding vendors already having booked weekends for 2022, both couples and vendors have had to get creative.

Keep reading to find out why we love midweek weddings and elopements, especially in our beloved Prince Edward County.

1. Your budget goes farther with midweek bookings in Prince Edward County

Everything from your accommodation to your venue, to your caterer/chef and cocktail truck, will have on-peak and off-peak pricing. Eloping or getting married midweek may mean you can stretch your budget a bit farther. This is different for everyone but it may mean you can spring for the personal chef, or private wine tasting (we love The Grange, Closson Chase and Karlo Estates), or maybe a more luxurious accommodation. Check out this post for our favourite Prince Edward County accommodations.

2. More Wedding Vendors are available midweek in Prince Edward County

This is always true, but especially so in 2022 due to Covid 19 postponements from 2020 and 2021, you will have more vendors available for a midweek wedding or elopement. Many PEC wedding vendors are booked up to 12 - 18 months in advance. If you book your wedding or elopement for midweek you will have a better chance of working with all the vendors you have your heart set on! 3. Traffic & Travel Costs are lower for midweek bookings

Let’s be honest, driving in the County is no match for gridlock on the 401, however, the main thoroughfares into the County (County Roads 62, 33 & 49) build up significant volume Friday - Sunday in June - September and no one wants to spend their wedding vacation time sitting in traffic.

And while we’re on the subject of travel, let’s talk flights, either for your guests or for yourself. Did you know flying on a Tuesday - Thursday is typically less expensive (and less busy)  than flying on a weekend? You can go ahead and sign me up for all the midweek flights!

4. Making Reservations midweek is Easier

First off you MUST check the opening times of the places you want to visit whenever you're visiting The County. We have many restaurants that close on a Tuesday or a Wednesday due to lower visitors, however on the whole it’s easier to make reservations for everything from accommodation to restaurants, to winery tours, midweek in Prince Edward County. For our top 6 places for foodies in Prince Edward County click here.

5. Slow down and enjoy your wedding holiday in Prince Edward County

Plan for 5- 7 days in the County. We did this for our own wedding (in Ireland in 2013) and we always recommend this to friends, family, and our couples. If you budget enough time for your wedding or elopement and a mini-moon you’ll be able to experience The County fully and not feel like you have to rush through all the highlights. For instance, arrive on a Monday (fresh from the weekend), elope or host your wedding on a Tuesday, take time to visit the beaches (see our local's guide to beaches here), the wineries (our favourites here) or breweries (highly recommended here) and the local shops on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. Make your reservations for restaurants on the weekend while you visit midweek and return home Sunday morning with plenty of time to get organized for the week ahead.
