Why The Drake Devonshire for a Family Photography Session?

Documenting your family’s memories is more important than ever. After covid upended travel in Ontario, we had an influx of families venturing out to Prince Edward County from Toronto and wanting to book family photography sessions. One of our new favorite places to document families (especially with babies) is the Owner’s Suite at The Drake Devonshire. 

What makes The Owner's Suite ideal for family photography sessions with young children?

M + S brought their children to Prince Edward County for a week and split time between The Merrill House and The Drake. They said staying at The Drake Devonshire was perfection for their little family. They had plenty of space to run around within the Owner’s Suite, and then could venture out to the lakefront, or play in the gardens outside. Having an on-site restaurant was also a huge plus. Comfortable, Natural Family Photographs

We met M+S on an overcast morning with a plan to shoot lakeside however they were so at home in Owner’s Suite we ended up spending the whole session there. The mix of indoor/outdoor space (the Owner’s Suite has a personal balcony overlooking the lakefront) and the stunning aesthetics of the suite make this a dream location to spend time in. 

Note: if you have young children (especially a baby) shooting indoors allows you to set the kids down for a moment to have a mini couple's session - this is one of the biggest surprises/highlights that our couples feedback to us!

Why are Drake Devonshire family photography sessions such a dream for us as photographers?

We're happy when you are at ease in your surroundings. Sleep in (or don't since young children are hard to convince of this), share brunch in the comfort of your room (The Drake Devonshire scones are next level) and invite us along for the ride. We love when you have a few activities planned for your session, things you naturally do as a family. You don't have to put on a show for us, things like sharing a meal, blowing bubbles, playing with your dog present all kinds of opportunities for you to connect with your kiddos and for us to capture your personalities and interactions naturally. The Owner's Suite (and The Drake Devonshire more generally) provide bright beautiful spaces with plenty of natural light, and bonus you don't have to worry about sorting out your own space.

How to have the best family photography session in Prince Edward County

We love engaging with and documenting your little people's personalities. Before your shoot, we will remind you there are almost no rules during the photography session. You interact with your kiddos 100%, don't ask them to smile at us, or even look at us. All of these candid photographs come from developing a comfortable rapport with you and your kids, and then letting them play! The best family photography session is the one that you have an absolute blast at, you are present fully with your people and we are along for the ride.
